The Christian life should be characterized by forward motion. Each step in walking in newness of life is a step of faith. We walk by letting our feet land squarely on the solid promises of God’s word, and allowing our full weight to rest upon God’s faithfulness to keep His word to us who are in Christ. We move forward by walking in an ever increasing obedience to God and to His word. The obedience of faith is exactly that: it is obedience to God that results from believing God. It is the hand that reaches out to lay hold of the blessing of God. That is why James says, “…be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”
