Friends of ours had been raised in the church, but then walked away from the faith and lived in rebellion to the Lord for a number of years. As young adults, they met, married outside of the church, and started their family.
Ten years and four children later, they had both come back to their childhood faith. As they matured, they wanted to publicly declare their love for Christ and each other in a vow renewal service of sorts. That was five years ago.
This year they celebrated 15 years of marriage, and they now have seven beautiful children. The picture above captures the covenant love that they have for each other. The music in the recording below expresses the intensity of the loyalty and passion that is theirs alone. And, the charge being made to them? Well, to me it sounds more like a battle cry than a typical vow renewal.
I am blessed and challenged every time that I hear it. The charge reminds me of the weighty realities behind Christian marriage and the power of God that makes those realities possible.
“The things that we are called to in Christian marriage are impossible – but in Christ, all things are possible… …so may God give you the grace and strength for Christian marriage.”
Indeed, may God give us all grace and strength for Christian marriage.
